A war of words erupted on Sunday between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC), a day after a real estate developer was shot at by three motorbike-borne men in Dum Dum Park area.
Three assailants fired at Sekhar Poddar, a small time real estate developer, near an under-construction highrise. The assailants fled from the spot after firing. Poddar has been admitted to Apollo Gleneagles Hospital and his condition is said to be critical. Officers of Lake Town police station has started a case. No arrests have been made so far.
TMC MLA Sujit Bose alleged that the attackers, Babu Nayek, Gendu and Rajesh, who were earlier backed by CPM have switched their allegiance to the BJP. “BJP leader Pijush Kanoria has been patronising them. He was seen in a photograph with Nayek. They are behind the attack,” Bose said.
Refuting the allegations, Kanoria said, “In the last municipal elections, Babu worked for the local TMC councillors. Now they are trying to drag us into the incident.”
BJP national secretary Rahul Sinha said that the shooting was a fallout of a syndicate clash within the ruling party. “The TMC has ushered in a syndicate raj across the state. Rival camps are indulging in fights to get the upper hand and as a result killing developers,” Sinha said.
